Flight of the Raven!

We’re proud to announce another gorgeous book and another Angoulême winner! Jean-Pierre Gibrat received the Best Artist Award for his lushly colored “Flight of the Raven,” which we’ll release in January 2017.

It’s one of the most stunningly beautiful comics of the 21st Century. The story takes place in Paris during the German Occupation and stars a memorable heroine—the French Resistance fighter named Jeanne. With the help of an apolitical cat burglar named François, she tries to save her comrades, including her missing sister Cécile, from a double-agent and the Gestapo. They walk in the places between shadows, as Gibrat uses the evocative Paris rooftops and river barges on the Seine almost as separate characters. The book also includes a portfolio of pin-ups featuring its heroine and features a new translation by Brandon Kander and Diana Schutz.

Corto in Portugal

Simone Castaldi, co-translator of our Corto Maltese series (not to mention Associate Professor of Romance Languages and Literature at Hofstra University!), recently returned from a sojourn in Europe. Among his travels was a stop at BD Mania, a fantastic comics store in Lisbon where he points out the first two of our English-language Corto books. If you’re planning a trip to Portugal any time soon, the shop is at Rua das Flores 71, 1200-194 Lisboa, Portugal. According to Simone there are “so many cool comic book stores in Portugal!”
